Honour Killings

In 2003, 17 year old Shafilea Ahmed was murdered by suffocation caused by a plastic bag over her head. The truly sickening part of this horrible case is that Shafilea was killed by her own parents. Not just this, but she was killed in front of her 4 siblings. Today in court, the jury voted unanimously that her parents, Iftikhar (52) and Farzana (49), we're guilty of first degree murder and sentenced to a minimum of 25 years each. The jury was told of how Shafilea would not conform to her parents control, and after years of abuse and trying to kill herself by drinking bleach, her arranged marriage (that she did not want to partake in) fell apart, causing her parents to fear shame in the community. It is this shame that they used as justification for the murder of their own child. What are your views on this? Is 25 years long enough? Is prison a strong enough punishment?

  1. They should realise they're not in their own country and that kind of thing is not accepted here. It is disgusting.
If their children are brought up in our country they should have a choice of what they want. Everyone deserves freedom.

25 years is no where near enough, and no doubt they will be let out in around 13 anyway.

    1. Thanks for your comment!

I don't think it should be acceptable anywhere. Murder, especially like this, should be universally seen as wrong.

Now the justice system of the UK is a completely new debate, maybe we will get onto that one day.

      Thanks again,
